STUDENT PORTAL

STM BATTLE OF THE BOOKS

The St. Thomas More Battle of the Books is an optional reading program for 3rd to 8th grade students. Participants read from a list of 15 or 16 books (based on the Oregon Battle of the Books list), and then compete in teams by answering trivia questions about the books in a game show format. Participation in this program encourages students to explore different genres and collaborate as a team. STM does not participate in the regional or state OBOB competitions but instead holds internal battles at STM, and the finalists compete against another Archdiocesan school, usually St. Clare.

Participation is not required, but all are invited!

If a student is interested in being on a team and participating in the competition next spring, they should read a minimum of four books from the list by January 2025. Once placed on a team, they will be asked to read three to five more books. We have not finalized practice times for 2024/2025, but they will likely be a combination of lunch recesses and before school (7:30 AM). Practices will begin in January 2025.
